This rose survived Hurricane Katrina and spread throughout the U.S. It's origins are still unknown.
The plant came to Peggy Martin's Louisiana garden 16 years before Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast region in 2005. The plant's background is the subject of intense interest because when it was discovered it was thought to have been submerged under water for some time.
"Martin said it was the only one among 450 antique roses in her garden to have made it through the storm", according to this article about the rose (credit CNN).
Despite years spent researching and traveling in an effort to discover the rose's true origin, the plant's lineage remains a mystery.
