Colony Collapse Disorder is the phenomenon that occurs when the majority of worker bees in a colony disappear and leave behind a queen, plenty of food and a few nurse bees to care for the remaining immature bees and the queen.
It's an enormous concern for everyone, as two-thirds of all food grown on the planet is does so because of bees.
While the EPA says the bee colony collapse is going down, it IS still happening and continues to be alarming. We can all help by reducing or eliminating our own use of fungicides and pesticides in our landscapes and gardens.
The use of chemicals is a definite contributor to colony collapse according to the article titled "Scientists Discover What Is Killing the Bees and It's Worse Than You Thought". Read the article here.
