- Strawberries need 1 inch of water per week throughout the growing season. Mulch plants with straw to conserve moisture.
- Blue flag iris will brighten any garden with vivid lavender-blue flowers. Avoid yellow flag iris, which is an invasive species.
- Take good care of the best gardening tool you have - YOU! Keep your circulation up with brisk walks and plenty of fresh air.
- Plant warm season vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers, and squash when daytime temperatures are consistently above 50 degrees F.
- Be ruthless when thinning carrots - allowing at least 1/2 inch of space between plants. You'll thank yourself at harvesttime.
- Harvest rhubard stalks by pulling gently from the base of the clump.
- Turn a privacy fence into an attractive landscape feature by training fast-growing vines along it such as clematis or noninvasive Major Wheeler Coral Honeysuckle.
