This list ranks the fruits and veggies that have the worst pesticide residue. You can eat all of them of course, just be sure to wash and dry them well before consuming.
Each of the foods included on the list tested positive for a variety of pesticide residues. They also averaged higher concentrations of pesticides than other fruits and veggies. In particular, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) reports that over 90% of samples of strawberries, apples, cherries, spinach, nectarines, and kale tested positive for two or more pesticide residues.
Here's the EWG's full list of the 2022 "Dirty Dozen" rankings:
- Strawberries
- Spinach
- Kale, collard greens, and mustard greens
- Nectarines
- Apples
- Grapes
- Bell peppers and hot peppers
- Cherries
- Peaches
- Pears
- Celery
- Tomatoes
