Because who doesn't love plants that thrive in almost any conditions?
Here's a list of hard-to-kill plants that are usually readily available at nurseries and thrive just about anywhere in the landscape.
- Ajuga (weed smothering groundcover with pretty blue flowers)
- Caladium - this is an annual only in our climate and is fun to grow because it looks like a tropical
- Persian Shield - gorgeous in containers with its colorful green and purple leaves
- Oakleaf Hydrangea - starts blooming mid-June and continues through to early fall.
- Portulaca (moss rose) - low growing and great in pots - prolific, brightly-colored flowers that bloom and bloom and bloom. Deer don't like it. Shown in photo above.
- Sedum - great for drought-prone gardens
- Armeria - likes sandy soils and can survive strong winds
- Milkweed (butterfly weed) - vibrant orange blossoms and monarch butterfly needs them to survive
- Threadleaf Tickseed - a strong pollinator attractor. Bright and cheerful and easy to grow.
