Douglas County Slash/Mulch site it open - and it's FREE! New for 2023: the site is accepting green yard waste.
Green yard waste drop-off is now available at Douglas County’s seasonal Slash-Mulch site.
Items accepted at the Green Yard Waste site include:
- Grass clippings
- Leaves and weeds
- Pinecones

Items accepted at the Slash-Mulch site include:
- Pine needles
- Tree limbs
- Shrubs, brush

IMPORTANT NOTE: Acceptable items at both sites include tree limbs, loose pine needles, shrubs, brush with a maximum length of 6 feet and a maximum diameter of 12 inches. All loads must be covered when they arrive at the site.
During the open season, a County operated loader will be available to load free wood chips for homeowners to use as mulch. Material can be picked up anytime during the season the site is open to accept slash.
The Site Operator has the authority to refuse loads and requires residents to reload and/or haul away materials found not to be in compliance with the regulations.
Free mulch is also available to residents. All items collected at the Douglas County Slash-Mulch/Green Yard Waste site are turned into mulch or compost, not taken to a landfill!
Both services are free and available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays ONLY through October at 1400 Caprice Drive in Castle Rock.
Separate your items according to the service at the site you will be utilizing and be prepared to empty all containers or bags to take back home with you. Make make sure items are free of pet waste.
