Tips for overwintering plants

You've brought your outdoor plants inside to overwinter - what's the best way to care for them so they'll be gorgeous next growing season?

Here are a few tips to help your plants thrive:

1. If you haven't already, prune the plant back by as much as half, removing dead or decaying leaves. Do this outside on a warm day - it can be messy.
   Water thoroughly.
   
   
2. While you're outside: look for insects. Use an insecticidal soap or make your own using plant-based dish soap to spray the entire plant before letting it dry and bringing it back inside.
   
3. Hold off on feeding your plants during the winter when they are not actively growing.
4. Most overwintering plants do best in a bright, sunny spot.
